Leaving our marina in Seattle on July 10th, we will travel into Canadian waters, clearning customs at Bedwell Harbour on South Pender Island. Because Canadian customs regulations restrict certain food items and limit the amount of alcohol we can bring into the country, we'll head to Nanaimo on our second day. Nanaimo is an important provisioning destination where we'll stock up becuase, after that, grocery and liquor stores are few and far between.
From Nanaimo, we cross the Straits of Georgia and head north to Desolation Sound and the Discovery Islands, an extremely popular and picturesque area. The Broughtons are 2 days beyond Desolation Sound.
It will just be the two of us for the first week as we make our way to Dent Island in Northern Desolation Sound where Ginnie's brother, Greg, and our sister in law, Mary, will fly in to join us. Though we've boated for many years, we've never been beyond Dent Island.
A float plane in Desolation Sound
Torben is an excellent skipper and Ginnie enjoys navigating which means she can tell the skipper where to go. However, she acknowledges that the skipper is definitely in charge and is quoted as saying "The only time I do as I'm told is on the boat!"
